NEW ROCHELLE, NY - MCC's men's soccer team lost in the NJCAA East District Quarter-Finals to the Monroe University Mustangs in a disappointing 4-0 loss. Mustangs' Hayato Otaka scored in the seventh minute off a set piece, giving Monroe an early lead against MCC. Despite opportunities to level the match, MCC was unable to capitalize.
The second half was much more lopsided. In the 49th minute, Otaka scored a second goal, doubling the lead and taking the wind out of the Tribunes' sails. The game was put out of reach when the Mustangs found the net for the third and fourth time in the 70th and 80th minutes, respectively. The Tribune offensive that put up nine shots in the first half only managed two in the second half.
MCC's men's soccer program finished the 2024 season with a record of 9-6-1. Sophomore striker Ollie Weir (Falkirk, Scotland) led the team with goals (9) and points (19), and sophomore midfielder Manato Ogawa (Saitama, Japan) led the team in assists (5).
The Tribunes will look to rally around their 13 returning freshman next year and improve on the lessons from this season.
