Cougars Fall in Five Sets to Glendale CC

The South Mountain Community College women's volleyball team fell in five sets at home to Glendale Community College on Oct. 30. The Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the contest, including a thrilling 31-29 victory in the fourth set, before falling in the fifth to the Gauchos. 

SMCC fell behind 2-0 as GCC won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. In set three, the Cougars started their comeback by hitting .333 with 13 kills on 27 attacks. The lengthy fourth set saw SMCC total 15 kills on 40 attacks to force a decisive fifth set, where the Cougars hit .150 with seven kills. 

Sophomore Kaley Hosler led SMCC with 20 kills and hit a team-high .381 on 42 attacks. She added a team-high 19 digs and a service ace.  Fellow sophomore Haley Meshay had a well-rounded game, totaling 17 kills, 16 assists, nine digs and five block assists. 

Freshman Quinci Dalley finished with 11 kills and three block assists in the contest. Sophomore Elizabeth Clemit had 10 kills on 23 swings and added a block solo and block assist.

Freshman Mackenzie Cumbie led the Cougars with 31 assists and added nine digs. Freshman Marlayna Stapleton totaled 18 digs, two assists and a service ace.
