Hudson Valley Community College's men's lacrosse team took the field with pride on Senior Day but ran into a tough Herkimer squad, falling 26–2 in their final home game of the season.
The Vikings honored their graduating players before the game: Seamus Camenga, Anthony Palladino, Cole Vumbaco, Carmelo LoPorto, and Zachary Price—all of whom have been key contributors both on and off the field during their time at Hudson Valley.
Despite the score, freshman Romeyn Murray gave the home crowd something to cheer about, scoring both goals for the Vikings. He also led the team with five shots (four on goal), picked up two ground balls, and caused a team-high eight turnovers.
Seamus Camenga and Zachary Rogers each recorded an assist, while Anthony Palladino and Austin Fitzpatrick added offensive pressure with three shots apiece. Palladino also contributed three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Defensively, Gabriel D'Angelo led with eight ground balls and two takeaways, while Theodore Kerber added seven ground balls. Seniors Cole Vumbaco, Carmelo LoPorto, and Zachary Price also played strong defensively, combining for nine ground balls and four caused turnovers.
In net, Nicholas Lagitch made 13 saves on 35 shots before giving way to Kerber, who stopped 4 of the 8 shots he faced.
The Vikings won 17 of 55 faceoffs, with Kerber going 13-for-23 at the X. The team was penalized multiple times, with six players serving time in the box during the contest.
Though the result wasn't what the Vikings hoped for, the afternoon was a meaningful one as they celebrated their seniors and reflected on their contributions to the program.
The Vikings end their season 3-8 and 2-2 in conference play.
