Carter and Riley lead Lady Wolves to first victory

GOODMAN, Miss. – A pair of 15 point performances from freshmen Sha'Quandra Carter and TaMara Riley helped lift the Lady Wolves to their first win of the season on Thursday as Co-Lin outlasted Holmes 62-56. The contest was hard-fought with the lead changing hands five times, but Co-Lin prevailed in the end by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 35-32 in the second half. Co-Lin is back on the court on Monday, November 5 as the Lady Wolves host Mississippi Delta Community College. Holmes jumped out to a 5-0 lead, their largest of the game, in the opening minutes of play as the Lady Wolves tried to find their rhythm in the season opener. Co-Lin responded with a 6-0 run in just 30 seconds to take a lead and work out the nerves.

Midway through the second Co-Lin's T'Kyra Hicks rattled home a three-pointer to pull the Lady Wolves to a 21-16 lead. After trading some baskets and some big threes from Holmes' Janae Collier that lead was cut down. Going into the half the Lady Wolves led 27-24.

Like the first quarter, Holmes came out firing in the third. The Lady Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run to play and take a five-point, 32-27, lead. Led by Carter Co-Lin responded. Carter scored three straight layups and a short jumper from Hicks, once again put the Lady Wolves on top, 36-32.

The fourth quarter saw Co-Lin's offense and defense really functioning with fluidity. The Lady Wolves went on the largest run of the game, a 13-0 stint that put Co-Lin in control 52-39. Holmes did not find the basket for the first four and a half minutes of the fourth quarter. The Lady Bulldogs began scoring late in the fourth, but the Lady Wolves had established too much of a lead for Holmes to overcome.

Sha'Quandra Carter and TaMara Riley led Co-Lin in scoring with 15 points each. Carter also led the tea in rebounds with nine. Camryn Davis and T'Kyra Hicks both posted nine points each, while Camryn Davis led the Lady Wolves with four steals and three assists. Camryn Davis also had eight reoubnds. Dashell Davis also had a notable game with six points and eight rebounds.

Jakalen Jones led Holmes with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Marlaysha Beamon and Koryana Johnson rounded out the top scorers with 10 points each. Brysa Maxwell posted eight points and eight rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.
