DMACC men's golf team finishes fourth in NIACC tourney

 

The DMACC men's golf team came away with a fourth-place finish in the NIACC Spring Invitational April 22 at Legends Golf Course in Mason City.

 

Freshman Faree Alexander of Kimberly Western Cape, South Africa, led the way as the Bears posted an 18-hole score of 301 strokes, 13 strokes behind the winning total of 288 by Hawkeye Community College (HCC) and North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC). Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) finished third with 297 strokes.

 

Alexander shot a one-over-par 72 and tied for fourth place in the individual competition.

 

Other DMACC results included a 73 by freshman Luke Linde of Winterset, 78s from freshman Ryan Schmierer of North Liberty and sophomore Caleb Ham of Hudson and a 79 by sophomore Lari Hakansen of Kerava, Finland. Linde tied for eighth place, Schmierer and Ham tied for 25th and Hakansen finished in 29th place.

 

Three DMACC golfers, freshmen Ethan Nace of Iowa City, Zach Wilson of Ames and Joey Currans of Ames, played as individuals and tied for eighth, 13th and 20th respectively. Nace matched Linde with a 73, Wilson posted a 74 and Currans shot a 76.

 

The DMACC men's golf team will play in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) North Central District Qualifier May 4 to 6 at Whispering Creek Golf Course in Sioux City.
