Jayhawks Set Three New Records In Return to the Pool

JAMESTOWN – In over three years without a swimming & diving program at Jamestown Community College, they returned to the pool against Genesee Community College and won in thrilling fashion, winning 105-101.

 

The Jayhawks (1-0, 1-0 WNYAC) had a record breaking night on the women's team, breaking three pool records in their return. Freshman Karianne Yuchnitz (Panama, NY/Panama Central) broke two pool records. In the 50 yard freestyle, Yuchnitz posted a time of 25.15. The previous record was set in 2018 by Christine Kuzminski where she posted a time of 26.08.

 

Yuchnitz also posted a new school record in the 100 yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 55.99. Kuzminski also held the record set back in 2018 with a time of 57.77.

 

Freshman Jade Vidas (Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa/Parktown HS for Girls) posted a time of 1:10.65 in the 100 yard IM.

 

Overall, the Jayhawks won 10 events on the night including the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard freestyle relay.

 

Freshman Anna Burt (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown HS), Megan Stang (Perrysburg, NY/Gowanda Central), and Tia Mappert (Gowanda, NY/Gowanda Central) all placed first in their respective events on the night.

 

JCC will be back in the pool next Monday as they take on Erie Community College at 5 p.m.
