Freshmen Impress in Men's Lax 28-1 Win Over Ocean CC

ARNOLD, MD – Freshmen John Thibodeau and Sam Weisshaar were impressive in their collegiate debuts as they led the #8 Anne Arundel Community College men's lacrosse team to a 28-1 win over visiting Ocean County Community College Saturday afternoon at Siegert Field. Thibodeau scored nine goals with four assists and five caused turnovers, while Weisshaar scored eight goals with four assists and seven groundballs.

In total, eight different players scored for the Riverhawks, who opened the season with a win for the first time since 2016. Freshman Trevor Collier scored five goals and added five assists for AACC, while classmate Peter Zercoe chipped in with a goal and three assists. Mike Rogers had six caused turnovers and nine groundballs to pace the Riverhawks' defense, which allowed just 13 shots (three on goal).

It was goalie by committee as all four AACC goalies played a full quarter, combining for a pair of saves on three shots. Starter Hugh Edwards earned the win allowing one goal. Gregory Connelly played the second quarter, Cole Simmons made a stop in the third, and Kolby Hood denied a point-blank shot in the fourth.

Thibodeau and Weisshaar scored the first two goals of the game before the Vikings got on the board less than four minutes into the game. It was all Riverhawks after that as they added five more in the first, seven in the second, 10 in the third, and four in the fourth.

Faceoff specialist Bryan Granados went 21-for-27 (78%) in his debut, also picking up 11 of AACC's 65 groundballs. Overall, the Riverhawks finished 24-for-32 (75%) at the faceoff x.

AACC (1-0) hosts #3 Nassau at 12 pm on Saturday, March 1 at Siegert Field.
