Kellogg baseball takes two at Glen Oaks
Bruins stay atop Western Conference standings.
Glen Oaks baseball suffered 15-1 and 11-2 defeats at home Thursday to MCCAA Western Conference leader Kellogg. The losses put the Vikings at 4-11 in league play and 7-27 overall. The Bruins lead the Western Conference at 13-2.
Game 1 was decided in five innings with Kellogg scoring six runs in the second inning, four in the third, and five in the fifth. Glen Oaks' lone run came on their lone hit in the first inning; a Brayden Clark RBI double that scored Erick Marin. Marin got on twice via walks.
The second contest went the distance and stayed competitive for the first chunk. The Bruins went ahead with two runs in the first inning and added two more in the fourth. The Vikings got two back in the bottom of the fourth on a Jayden Hamilton two RBI double. However, Kellogg retaliated with seven runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Glen Oaks had seven hits to the Bruins' 11. Andrew Thorpe had two singles and a run. Marin, Clark, Steven Drewyor, and Peyton Simmons each had hits.
The second half of the season series against Kellogg comes Saturday with a trip to Battle Creek.
