LCCC Women Drops Home Game to Walsh University JV

November 17, 2015 - Lorain CCC Women's Basketball loss a tough home game Tuesday night against the junior varsity team of Walsh University. In an up-and-down game, the Commodores fell 73-85 and fall to 3-2 on the season.

Unlike the previous four games of the season, the Lady Commodores didn't come out with the hot hand; instead, the Commodores found themselves down as much as 10 in the first few minutes of the game. With seven team turnovers, the Commodores had to find a different way to stay in the game.

With 14 first-half free throw attempts, the Commodores were able to end the first quarter on a run, going up 24-19. Led by Onyx Lopez who had 15 first-half points and ended the night with a game high 29, LCCC couldn't hold on to the lead and went to the half down 32-39.

In the second half, the Commodores once again played themselves into a hole as Walsh jumped out to an early lead. With the second-half emergence of Angel Blakely, who ended the night with 14 points, the Commodores were able to keep things close as they headed to the fourth quarter down 50-56.

In the final quarter of play, it was the rebounds that hurt the Commodores as they were out rebounded 38 to 50. With the Commodore defense allowing their opponent to shoot 41 percent on the night, they eventually fell 73-85.

After the game Coach Granito was not happy with the amount of turnovers they had. "The turnovers just killed us tonight. We have to get better, and we will."
