
Lions Bow Out in District Championship
DALLAS – Dallas College Mountain View women's basketball team's postseason push came to an end Saturday in a 73-54 setback to Joliet Junior College in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Central District championship at Dallas College Richland.
The Lions (11-14) were attempting to win their second district title in the past three years after capturing the 2023 crown to punch the program's first ticket to the national tournament under head coach Keitha Dickerson.
Joliet (16-13) advances to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament March 12-15 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Kianna Jones had 14 points, seven rebounds, eight steals and four assists for the Lions, who fell behind 27-16 in the first quarter and were in an uphill battle the rest of the way. Asia Zachary had 13 points, while going 7 for 8 from the free throw line. Jourdan Jones finished with 13 points, five boards and four steals.
Joliet's Demi Page had 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and grabbed six of her eight rebounds on the offensive glass. Na'Kiyah Robertson had 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting and nine rebounds, including five offensive boards. Jazlynn Foster scored 17 points, while shooting 7 of 8 from the field, and had nine boards, two blocks and a steal. Lovely Tua-Link had 13 assists, five rebounds, three steals and six points. Joyce Tua-Link had seven points, 10 boards, six steals and a block.
The Wolves outrebounded the Lions 54-32. Joliet outscored Mountain View 40-26 in the paint. The Wolves' bench had 24 points to the Lions' seven.
Mountain View, which overcame a double-digit deficit in Friday's semifinals to knock off host Richland, has posted double-digit wins for the past three seasons.
