Scott, Saunders Power Reivers Past Warriors
One Win Away from a Conference Title
COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA No. 25 Iowa Western Baseball defeated the Indian Hills Warriors 11-1 in 8 innings on Thursday afternoon behind a dominant pitching performance and a pair of home runs.
The Reivers' ace Noah Scott (10-2) opened up game one of the best-of-three series, allowing a pair of doubles and a run in the first inning, but settled down to face just two over the minimum the rest of the way. The sophomore from Westminster, CO, struck out four Warrior batters and scattered just three hits over his last seven innings of work. He also induced three ground ball double plays throughout the game to erase any momentum that Indian Hills (27-24) would start.
Offensively, the Reivers (39-17) put up crooked numbers in the second, sixth, and eighth innings, First Baseman Evan Saunders providing the big blows, launching a solo shot in the third inning and then walked off the game with a 3-run towering blast to left field. The sophomore would finish 3-4 with five RBI and two runs scored on the day. Additionally, two other Reivers recorded multiple RBI; Skylar Graham with three and Cooper Neville with a pair.
Both teams will be back at Doc Ross Field at the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Complex tomorrow at 2:00 pm for the ICCAC Championship Elimination Game.
