NCMC Women’s Golf Place 6th at Kansas City Cup

The North Central Missouri College traveled to Smithville, MO on Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Kansas City Cup hosted by William Jewell College. NCMC played 36 holes on the Outlaw Course at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex on Monday and concluded play with 18 holes on Tuesday. "We couldn't have asked for a better event this week for the girls. 36 holes of golf in one day is a true test of adversity and the girls came in with a solid mindset for the event", said 2nd year Head Coach Nate Swann.

The Lady Pirates finished in 6th place for the event behind all 4 year schools including team champion Truman State University, Rockhurst University, William Jewell College, Park University and Baker University. Haley Baskett led the pirate squad individually posting a 54-hole score of 285 and finishing in 29th for the tournament. "Haley got off to a rough start on Monday but rebounded extremely well on Tuesday by playing her best round of the fall, not score-wise but by playing stress free golf on a very difficult golf course." Kennedy Dickerson and Lexi Hutton finished in 30th and 31st place respectively for the tournament. "Overall I was pleased with both Kennedy and Lexi at the event even though it wasn't their best golf. I would really like to see them grind out their last 6 or 7 holes better but their short game is making good progress." Brianna Filley rounded out the lady pirate scoring finishing in 35th place for the tournament. "Brianna hit some really good shots on Monday and Tuesday but just made a few too many big numbers. All of the girls can vouch that the big numbers came on the second 18-hole round on Monday. It was mentally exhausting but Brianna got through it with a solid attitude, which I was really proud of."

ReaLee Smith played 15 holes on Monday but had to withdraw from the event with an ongoing back injury. "We wish ReaLee a speedy recovery and hope that she is back with us next week. Nothing major but making sure we take the correct precautions so this injury does not get worse."

The NCMC Lady Pirates will now hit the weight room and driving range as they prepare for the State Fair Roadrunner Invitational held at Sedalia Country Club on October 17th and 18th.
