Sandburg Women’s Golf Wraps Up Fall Season at Millikin

DECATUR — The Carl Sandburg College women's golf team closed out its fall schedule at the Millikin Dechert Fall Classic on Friday and Saturday at South Side Country Club.

The Chargers, led by freshman Ava Hackman's 10th-place finish, placed seventh in a field of 10 teams that included just two other two-year programs.

Hackman opened with a first-round 81 on Friday and followed up with an 87 in Saturday's second round to finish in a three-way tie for 10th.

Sandburg freshman Lauren Minkel shaved nine strokes off her first-round score, posting an 87 on Saturday to tie for 29th.

The Chargers opened the tournament with a 366 and added a 375 score in the second round for a 741 total. Sandburg finished 14 shots behind host Millikin, which placed sixth. The Chargers were 53 strokes better than eighth-place Danville Area. Illinois Wesleyan shot 655 for the tournament to win by 12 strokes over Augustana.

IWU's Quinn Clifford finished 5 under par (69-68) for the tournament to win medalist honors by one over teammate Bobby Beaubien.
