Jan.17, Moberly Area Community College at Sedalia

The seventh ranked Moberly Area Community College Lady Greyhounds defeated the Lady Roadrunners 67-51 in a Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAC) game.

Sophomore guard/forward Catie Kaifes knocked down a deep three-point shot to trim the Moberly advantage to 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Moberly took a 30-27 lead at halftime.

SFCC had the lead early in the third quarter before Moberly grabbed it back 39-35. Moberly outscored the Lady Roadrunners 28-16 to emerge with the victory.

"We don't have enough players to matchup with the depth that Moberly has," said Head Coach Kevin Bucher. "We didn't do things to finish the ballgame. We needed to box-out and rebound … we just have to keep improving."

Kaifes recorded a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds, leading the team in both categories. Freshman guard Jazzmyn Elston contributed 10 points. Sophomore guard Ren'Cia Rolling dished out a team-high six assists. Sophomore guard Maya Brewer led the team in steals with two. Rolling and sophomore center Grace Morrow tied for the team lead in blocked shots with two.

Jan. 20 Jefferson College at Sedalia

The Lady Roadrunners defeated the Jefferson College Lady Vikings from Hillsboro, 94-59, in an important Region 16 and MCCAC game in front of a large crowd. SFCC is currently 10-9, 2-1 in Region 16 and 2-3 in the conference.

SFCC shook off a slow start in the opening minutes to take a 30-17 lead in the first quarter. The Lady Roadrunners used a full-court trapping defense to extend the advantage to 92-43 in the fourth quarter. SFCC forced Jefferson into 31 turnovers in the game.

"We have to do a better job of finishing games," said Bucher. "Jefferson outscored us 21-14. We played very well for about 2½ quarters tonight. We struggled a little bit in the first quarter before we were able to get going with our press. It's nice to have 10 players available so we can go full-court in practice and work on the things that we need to improve."

The Lady Roadrunners had five players who scored in double figures; Elston led with 19 points,Brewer contributed 15 points and a team-high four steals. Freshman forward Brionna Hill and Kaifes pitched in 12 points each. Freshman guard Monique Esbrand registered 11 points. Morrow pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Rolling dished out 11 assists.

SFCC will host Crowder College at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 24 in another key Region 16 contest in the Davis Center.
