
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State's Julianne Dodson dominated from start to finish on Friday evening at the Walters State Opener.
Running in a brutal heat, Dodson didn't seem affected at all as she won by almost four minutes with a time of 22:03. Pellissippi State won the team battle with Roane State finishing in second.
On the men's side, the Senators finished in second place with a score of 29 points. Pellissippi State won the race with a score of 28 points. The two teams originally tied at 28 points, and Walters State won the tiebreaker. However, a scoring error discovered on Saturday morning put Walters State in second with 29 points.
Along with Dodson, Walters State's Emma Hamilton finished in third at 26:49. Chloe Williford finished in fourth in her first race for the Lady Senators with a time of 27:20. Rounding out the team was Lani Helton in 13th with a time of 32:16.
On the men's side, Brando Resendiz picked up where he left off last year with a second-place finish and time of 19:04. Gideon Erwin was right behind him in third-place with a time of 19:45. Wade Walters was next for the Senators in fifth-place with a time of 20:39.
Rounding out the team was Juan Guillen in seventh-place with a time of 21:22, Ignacio Vargas Huipe in 18th with a time of 24:49, Jessie Ramos in 20th with a time of 25:24 and Benjamin Eigenmann in 24th with a time of 27:58.
The race for both the men and women was a 5k.

Walters State will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 1 for the Eye Opener in Spartanburg, SC. The women will run at 6 p.m. with the men to follow at 6:40 p.m.
