Scotties cage the Hounds in 91-66 win

Highland was firing on all cylinders Wednesday night as they dominated the Greyhounds of Fort Scott for forty minutes cruising to a 91-66 win, their 19th of the season.

The Scotties busted the lead open in the first four minutes after Holden Redparth knocked down four three-pointers and James Caldwell added in a layup and a dunk to start the game, Scotties led 16-6 with 15:57 to play.

When coach Cole subbed in the second five off the bench, you didn't even notice a dip in the action. Baskets from Dylan Owen and Jarvis Johnson helped stretch the Highland lead to 20 points with 7:22 to play in the held. The Scotties led by as much as 23 points in the first half but thwo late free throws from Fort Scott would cut the HCC lead to 21 and Highland took a 45-24 lead into the break.

Highland held the Greyhounds to just 40% shooting from the floor and forced eight first half turnovers as Highland went 8-15 from three and shot 55% from the floor and turned it over just four times.

Another Redparth three pointer gave Highland a 29-point lead (largest of the game) three minutes into the half. Fort Scott pieced together a few baskets in a row cutting the lead to 19 points, but Highland kept the Hounds at arm's length the rest of the game and won 91-66.

"It is always good when you start the game off right. You set the tempo, it's high, everybody is involved, the team is involved the crowd is involved and that is what happened tonight, commented sophomore guard Holden Redparth after a big offensive night.

Holden Redparth had a monstrous night knocking down nine three-pointers on 9-16 shooting and scoring 28 points and nine rebounds. James Caldwell, on his 19th birthday, scored 13 points knocking down his first three pointer of the season and electrifying the crowd with two big dunks in the game. Taiveyhon Mason played spectacular from the point-guard position scoring 10 points and dishing out 11 assists. He also recorded four steals and grabbed two rebounds. Alonzo Williams was the other Scottie in double figures finishing with 10 points.

Highland finished shooting 15-28, 54% from three, a big difference from Saturday's game at KCKCC as the Scotties went 9-34 from deep.

"It was mainly executing right, finding open gaps and attacking, finding our teammates and making plays," said Redparth on the difference of tonight's game from Saturday's game.

Highland is now 19-6 overall, 3-1 in KJCCC and 4-1 in Region VI play. They will start round two of KJCCC Div. II play on Saturday as they host Labette CC at 3:00pm. Highland won the last matchup on January 24th 74-70 at Labette and will look for a similar outcome on Saturday.
