Chelak Posts Top-20 Time for Chargers at WIU Invitational
MACOMB — Collines Chelak's top-20 time on the men's side highlighted the Carl Sandburg College cross country teams' performances at the Western Illinois Invitational on Friday evening at Spring Lake Park.
Chelak completed the 6-kilometer race in 20 minutes, 17.5 seconds and placed 19th overall. He was followed closely behind by Allan Kipruto (21st, 20:56), Meshack Kimutai (24th, 21:40.4) and Titus Kimutai (28th, 23:28.7).
Sandburg's men's team finished third out of four teams with 102 points. Bradley had five of the top six finishers to win with 17 points. Host WIU had 47 points. Sauk Valley, the only other two-year school in the race, was fourth with 102.
Damaris Kimaiyo led the Chargers in the women's 4K, taking 26th place in 17:08. Sandburg's Sharon Yego was 31st in 18:16.8, and Ascar Jepchirchir finished in 32nd at 18:37.2.
The Chargers were fourth in the team standings against a field of NCAA Division I programs. Bradley matched its 17 points from the men's race to win, while WIU and Northern Illinois tied for second at 59 points.
