WICHITA, Kansas --- The No. 3 ranked and No. 5 seed Holmes Community College Lady Bulldogs knocked off the No. 9 ranked and seeded Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm in the 2021 NJCAA Women's Division II National Tournament pool play, 2-0, here Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs improve to 14-2-2 on the season and will play Pima, 15-4, in their next pool game tonight at 6:30 p.m. Pima, the No. 4 seed defeated SWIC, 2-0, Monday night in their pool match. The remaining team will advance to the NJCAA semifinals on Friday.
Holmes got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute when the SWIC goalkeeper dropped the ball in the goal after being pressured by the Holmes offensive players. Holmes led 1-0 after the first half.
The Lady Bulldogs added to their 1-0 lead in the 80th minute when Ravynne Wilson took an assist from Callie McKinney and placed the ball in the back of the net sealing the victory for the Lady Bulldogs.
Holmes took 18 shots with nine on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Layken Stockstill finished with five saves on the night.
