Ganzon earns All-ISCC honors

(Beach Park, IL) -  A windy day at Thunderhawk Golf Club near the shores of Lake Michigan made it tough for all the competitors in the final Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) match of the season. Waubonsee Community College golfers limped home with a score of 367 to place fourth on the day and also finish fourth in the final league standings. The blustery conditions proved to be quite formidable as only two golfers ended the day with scores under 80 on the over 7,000 yard long Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course.

Oakton Community College, behind medalist Dan Allegretti's 6-over par 78, won for the fifth time in six ISCC matches to put the icing on the cake of the Owls' first ever ISCC Golf title. Allegretti also secured the ISCC Golfer of the Year award by finishing with a 76.2 average to hold off the College of Lake County's Kirby Torola who ended with a 77.0 average over six rounds.

Despite firing his highest score of the season with an 83, Waubonsee's Cody Ganzon earned All-ISCC honors for the second straight year. The Montgomery native finished sixth overall with an average of 80.0 over six rounds. The Chiefs' Kyle Ryan carded an 89 on the day that included holing out from 50 yards away on a par-5 during his round. Isaac McCumber turned in a 97, Gavin Woods shot a 98 and Emilee Schultz finished with a 117 to round out the Chiefs competitors.

Coach Dusty Darnold's crew is set to participate in the Joliet Junior College invite on Friday, October 6 at Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris. Waubonsee is also scheduled to play in the Benedictine University Invite on Wednesday, October 11 at the St. Andrews Golf Course in West Chicago to close out their regular season. The four-day Region 4 Tournament will be played in early May of 2024 at a yet-to-be-determined site. The 2024 NJCAA Division II Golf National Championship Tournament is set to run from May 21 through 24 at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Missouri.
