
Almelien paces Trojans at Griak Invite
MINNEAPOLIS - Freshman Owen Almelien led the NIACC men's cross country team Friday at the University of Minnesota's Roy Griak Invitational.
Almelien,who is from Greene, placed 218th in a time of 29 minutes, 1 second on the 8-kilometer course on the Les Bolstad Golf Course in the Jo Rider Men's Maroon Race (Division II and III).
NIACC, which is ranked 13th in the USTFCCCA NJCAA Division II poll, placed 30th in the team standings with 893 points. Indiana Wesleyan was the team champion with 58 points and Wayne State was second with 92 points.
Also for the Trojans, Breyden Christensen placed 243rd (29:14), Joey Ringo placed 304th (30:10), Bryson Canton was 315th (30:23), Eli Bergman was 359th (31:20), Jacob Vais placed 384th (31:56), Chris Marroquin placed 416th (33:17), Vlad Starrett placed 419th (33:24) and Hugo Massa was 436th (34:17).
NIACC returns to action Oct. 13 at the Indian Hills Invitatonal in Ottumwa.
