TUPELO, Miss. – Franco Roldan (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated Christopher Lawrance of East Central 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (6) to advance to the No. 1 singles championship round of the MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 tournaments at Rob Leake City Park on Friday.
Roldan dropped a hard-fought 7-6; 6-3 battle with No. 1 seeded Carlos Trujillo of Hinds in the championship match.
By advancing to the finals, Roldan will advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Arizona along with his doubles partner Blake Gregory (Pontotoc) to participate in the No. 2 Doubles tournament. Gregory will also participate in the No. 2 singles of the national tournament.
Hayden Embry (Philadelphia) fell to Wesley Fontaine of Gulf Coast 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles semifinals.
