Chiefs shutout DuPage for first win

(Glen Ellyn, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's Women's Tennis team registered its first win of the 2024 season shutting out the College of DuPage 6-0. After a nearly three year hiatus in fielding a team, it was also the Chiefs first win since September 29, 2021. Both teams took to the Chaparrals' courts with only four players, meaning the number five and six singles matches along with the number three doubles match, were not played. Coach Kathleen Preston's Chiefs took care of business in each of the six match-ups that were held.

Lexi Maberry downed DuPage's Kaitlyn Murphy 6-1, 6-1 in number one singles action. Waubonsee's Sophia Yurt topped Emma Buelow 6-0, 6-3 at number two singles. Abby Grams then dispatched Maria Aguilar at number three singles 6-1, 6-1 as well. Monet Lopez received a default victory from Marissa Camacho at number four singles. The duo of Maberry and Grams beat the pairing of Murphy and Camacho 8-2 in number one doubles play. And the tandem of Yurt and Lopez blanked DuPage's Buelow and Aguilar 8-0 to complete the sweep. Waubonsee (1-4) is in action again this coming Friday, September 27, when they travel to Dixon to take on Sauk Valley Community College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
