RAYMOND – The Hinds Community College Lady Eagle soccer team started their 2021 regular season with a 2-1 win over Pearl River.
"I'm most proud of the fact that every player played in this game," said head coach
Steve Otto. "This was a true team win because everyone contributed," Otto said.
Pearl River struck first with a goal in the 40
th minute, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead going into the half.
The Wildcats were in control during most of the match. But, during the 66
th minute,
Kimani Cook (Pearl) was fouled, leading to a goal on a penalty kick from
Macey Peacock (Pearl).
Less than ten minutes later, the Eagles found the back of the net thanks to
Anna McCool (Pearl). This goal was the deciding factor in the match.
"The girls played well organized soccer," assistant coach
Lydia Sutcliffe said. "We were down a goal at the half, and it takes character to win a game when down," Sutcliffe said.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, August 31 at 7 p.m. as they play host to Jones College on Tom Shepherd Field in Raymond.
