Statesmen Go 1-1 Over The Weekend

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Basketball team moves to 1-4 in conference play and 6-10 overall after they traveled to South Carolina this weekend to take on conference opponents USC Salkehatchie and Denmark Technical College.

On Friday January 14^th, the Statesmen took on USC Salkehatchie. Trailing by a 7 at half, the Statesmen were outscored 35-25 in the second half to help Salkehatchie pull away to the 74-57 conference win. Lance Monteiro led the Statesmen with 26 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Off the bench, Kevon West was credited with 16 points and 3 rebounds.   

On Saturday January 15^th, Richard Bland matched up with Denmark Tech for the second time this season. Leading by a wide margin at the half, 41-17, the Statesmen went on to defeat the Panthers, 73-45. Kelby Saunders Jr. recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Wood scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds in the win. Lance Monteiro had 15 points while Kevon West chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds off the bench, to help the Statesmen split the series.

Richard Bland men's basketball next travels to Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland for a nonconference game with the Dragons on Tuesday January 18^th at 7pm.
