SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College of William and Mary Men's Basketball team moves to 1-4 in conference play and 6-10 overall after they traveled to South Carolina this weekend to take on conference opponents USC Salkehatchie and Denmark Technical College.
On Friday January 14th, the Statesmen took on USC Salkehatchie. Trailing by a 7 at half, the Statesmen were outscored 35-25 in the second half to help Salkehatchie pull away to the 74-57 conference win. Lance Monteiro led the Statesmen with 26 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks. Off the bench, Kevon West was credited with 16 points and 3 rebounds.
On Saturday January 15th, Richard Bland matched up with Denmark Tech for the second time this season. Leading by a wide margin at the half, 41-17, the Statesmen went on to defeat the Panthers, 73-45. Kelby Saunders Jr. recorded his second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Eric Wood scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds in the win. Lance Monteiro had 15 points while Kevon West chipped in with 10 points and 5 rebounds off the bench, to help the Statesmen split the series.
Richard Bland men's basketball next travels to Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland for a nonconference game with the Dragons on Tuesday January 18th at 7pm.
