No. 17 Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped a pair of games Tuesday in a doubleheader at No. 8 Pearl River in Poplarville.
The Wildcats won the opener 6-0 and claimed the nightcap 5-1.
Gulf Coast trailed the first game 1-0 until the fifth, when PRCC scored three times. The Wildcats added two more in the sixth for the final.
Abbott Stafford (So., Glenmora, La./Glenmora) doubled to lead off the second in Game 2, then scored on a groundout by Jovi Jones (Fr., Batesville/Magnolia Heights).
Pearl River (18-9, 8-2 MACCC) tied it with a run in the fifth, then broke through for four more in the sixth.
Gulf Coast (14-15, 6-4) will be celebrating Military + First Responders Appreciation Day on Saturday before the doubleheader against Coahoma. All those people will get in free and be honored in on-field ceremonies before the game at 1:35 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
