Baseball Splits at Kankakee

Kankakee, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team won 8-2 in game one before suffering a 14-0 loss in game two to Kankakee Community College.

The Spartans improve to 21-15 as the Cavaliers move to 36-12.

Game 1: Elgin 8, Kankakee 2

Justin "JZ" Zimmerman earned the win in six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out seven and walking one. Luke Cano and Connor Collins entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Derek Angelo and Erik Teran II registered two hits as Nick Schumann, Eli Johnson and Nathan Euliano tallied one each.

Panico walked and stole second before scoring on Angelo's hard ground ball to center to put the first run on the board in the first inning.

Kankakee runs in the first and second innings for the 2-1 advantage.

Lorenzo Ranallo was hit by a pitch to start off the third inning, stole second and advanced to third on Luis Rodriguez's groundout. Schumann hit an RBI single to send Ranallo home and tie up the game.

Schumann stole second and advanced to third on Angelo's ground ball. Teran hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Johnson for the 4-2 lead.

Schumann and Angelo earned walks and advanced on base on Teran's single. Johnson's walk scored a run and Riley's sacrifice fly drove in two runs in the fifth inning.

Rodriguez and Schumann got on base with walks and Angelo's single center field brought in Rodriguez for the final run of the game in the top of the sixth.

Game 2: Kankakee 14, Elgin 0

Nik Panico registered the lone hit of game two.

Kankakee scored its runs in four innings to end the game in the fifth.

The Spartans host Oakton on Monday to finish April 5's unfinished game followed by another game. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
