
Simthfield, NC - In their first conference game, the Emory Oxford men's basketball team were defeated by the Jaguars of Johnston Community College 70-53. The Eagles drop to 2-3 for the season while the Jaguars improve to 4-0.
The Eagles had three players in double figures and were led by freshman Thomas Powell who scored 14 points including three 3-pointers. Fellow freshman Arturo Varela scored 12 points while grabbing a team-high 7 rebounds. Classmate Shane McCravy produced 10 points and 6 boards. Freshman Myles Johnson led the Eagles with 5 assists.
Although the Eagles outshot Johnston 69-62, the Eagles converted on only 28% of their shots, while the Jaguars converted on 45%.
"We were not oursevles tonight on the offensive end but we competed hard as a team," stated Tim Terry, Head Assistant Coach.
The Eagles will have one more game in North Carolina as they will play Central Carolina Community College on Sunday (November 17) at 2:00PM.
