
Generals offense keeps rolling to complete 4 game sweep of Mohawk Valley
Utica, NY - The Herkimer Generals offense keeps running on all cylinders, Dom Fasolo made sure of that on Tuesday afternoon.
Fasolo, a sophomore outfielder from Whitesboro, went 3-4 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI's in the opener of Herkimer's doubleheader sweep of Mohawk Valley at Murnane Field. The Generals took Game 1 by a score of 15-7 and then took the nightcap 10-1 in a game that was shortened to 5 innings due to darkness. Herkimer scored 49 runs in the 4 game sweep of the Hawks to improve their record to 9-1 on the season and improve to # 6 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll.
Yuzuki Okamura (Shiga, Japan) also added a 2 run blast of his own in the first game and Sal Carricato (Farmingville, NY) also went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. Anthony Raimo, Jr (Altamont, NY) added an RBI double and scored 2 runs. Brandon Breakell (Loudonville, NY) got the start on the mound for Herkimer, earning the win as he threw 5 innings and struck out 7 while giving up 3 runs on 3 hits. Hiromasa Tanaka (Tokyo, Japan) pitched the last two innings, allowing no earned runs while striking out 3.
Game 2 saw MVCC take a 1-0 lead before the Generals scored 3 in the second and added 6 more in the third to pull away from the Hawks. David Breakell (Loudonville, NY) went 1-3 and knocked in 3 runs while Fasolo added another extra base hit, a double, to cap off his big day. Herkimer needed only 6 hits to generate their 10 runs before the game was called at the end of the 5th inning due to darkness. Ryan Peters (Watertown, NY) gave up only 2 hits and 1 run over his 5 innings of work to earn the win.
Herkimer now gets a few days rest before a 4 game weekend match up with the Cayuga Spartans. The Generals will travel to Falcon Park in Auburn, NY on Saturday for a 1:00 first pitch and then will host the Spartans at Vets Park in Little Falls on Sunday where the game is scheduled to start at 12 Noon.
