Lady Indians fall to Otero Junior College 76-69

The McCook Community College women's basketball team dropped a 76-69 decision to Otero Junior College Saturday in the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center.

"We talked about it going into the game but we just were not consistent especially shooting the ball," said MCC Coach Brandon Pritchett.

The Lady Indians shot just 39 percent from the field, made five of 27 attempts from the 3-point line, and 19 of 17 free throws.

"I thought we fought hard and we battled, those things were good, the energy was there but we just weren't consistent shooting the ball against Otero's zone," Pritchett. "Otero played really well on the road, they have a lot of different weapons that played well."

The Lady Rattlers improve to (19-4, 7-1 in the south sub-region).

Makenna Bodette (sophomore, Colorado Springs) scored 22 points to lead the Indians and also had a team-high 10 rebounds.

"Makenna was consistent for us, pretty proficient from the field 10 of 18. She's really been the most consistent all year and we as a team have to be consistent to play well," said Pritchett.

Freshman Carla Torrubia Cano (Melilla Spain) scored 10 points and brought down seven rebounds.

Gail Whiting (freshman, Montgomery, Ala.) scored nine points. Guards Paula Rosello Mateu, (sophomore, Barcelona, Spain) and Amiya Dartest (freshman, Jennings, La.) both scored eight points and freshman Niamh Kelshaw (Manchester, England) scored seven.

The Lady Rattlers shot 46.7 from the floor, made seven of 13 3-pointers and were 12 of 17 from the free-throw line. OJC outrebounded MCC 51-30.

MCC falls to 19-8, and 4-5 in the south division of Region IX. The Lady Indians wrap up the regular season this week with three home games starting with North Platte (5 p.m.) in a "women's-only" game Wednesday; followed by Lamar Community College Friday (5 p.m.) to wrap up the south sub-region play and the home finale Saturday against Iowa Western at 4 p.m.
