The Tyler Junior College men's and women's soccer teams combined to blank Jacksonville college and notch a pair of wins at Pat Hartley field on Tuesday.

The Apache Ladies won 4-0 with the Apaches coasting to a 7-0 win.

WOMEN

Jacksonville dominated the early minutes of the game with the Jaguars had several shots on goal and several scoring opportunities including a ball that deflected off the TJC goalie but sailed five feet to the right before another player could get a shot off.

The home side made Jacksonville pay for those missed opportunities and quickly took control of the match.

Sophomore midfielder Bobbie Gutierrez set up a shot in front of the goal for teammate Lindsey Jones who scored in the 25th minute and put TJC on the board. Twelve minutes later, the Apache Ladies struck again. Renata Inniss kicked a shot towards the Jacksonville goalie that slid in front of the net to stop the ball. But the ball rolled into the perfect position for Brooke Johnston who kicked it in for the goal.

Both teams pushed downfield trying to gain an advantage. In the 44th minute, Moriah Phillips charged down the field and had time to take a shot. Instead, she passed the ball to Inniss who didn't have any defenders around her. She had plenty of time for the ball to slightly settle before kicking it into the top right corner of the net to give TJC a three-goal advantage going into halftime.

As the second half progressed, it looked as if both teams would remain scoreless but the Apaches added a final goal in the 80th minute by Keeley Bowles. TJC kept its defense strong as the final whistle to preserve the shutout.

The team's overall record is 15-2, 6-1. The Apache Ladies will next travel to Navarro College and play at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

MEN

The men's team continued its dominant streak and came out in force during the first half of their match notching the first goal of the game in the first minute.

Jacksonville's defense had a hard time starting out giving TJC the advantage as Nazeem Bartman easily maneuvered around the Jaguars' goalie for the goal. Eight minutes later, Rayon Gibbs kicked a ball in the back of the net from eight yards out to give the Apaches a 2-0 advantage.

TJC followed up with a pair of goals in the 13th and 14th minutes, respectively.

Atsou Ayah took the ball in the middle of the penalty box and the Jacksonville goalie came out to make it a one-on-one situation but at the last second, Ayah passed the ball to Bartman who gently nudged the ball into the empty net. Martin Agredo then came downfield with the ball almost immediately following that goal to send the ball in to score and make it 4-0.

Freshman forward Yaw Amankwa added to the lead with a goal in the 25th minute. Later in the half, Amankwa and Guillermo Torres worked downfield passing the ball back and forth up to the top corner. Amankwa passed the ball to Torres who kicked the ball in for yet another goal in the 36th minute. That made it 6-0 as the temperatures dropped and fans went to their cars to grab jackets and blankets for the second half.

Jacksonville looked like another team coming out of halftime strengthening their defense against TJC. The Jaguars held the Apaches to just one goal in the second half scored by Amankwa in the 75th minute.

TJC's overall record is 13-1, 8-0. The Apaches next play San Jacinto College-South at home at 7 p.m. Friday.
