DMACC volleyball team takes three of four at Triton Invite

The Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) volleyball team came away with a 3-1 record in the Triton Invite October 12 and 13 at Fort Dodge.

 

The Bears, ranked 20th in the most recent Division II poll from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), opened tournament play with a 3-0 win against Carl Sandberg College (CSC) on Oct. 12 and then defeated to Rock Valley College (RVC), 3-0, in their second match of the day. DMACC dropped a 3-2 decision to fifth-ranked Cowley County Community College (CCCC) in its first match on Oct. 13 and close out tournament play with a 3-0 win over the Grand View University JV (GVUJV).

 

DMACC improved to 21-11 with the split.

 

Sophomore Madison Paulsen of Council Bluffs had 10 kills to lead the Bears past CSC by set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-11. Sophomore Peyton Parker of La Porte City finished with eight kills, freshman Amber Dilsaver of Fort Madison had seven and sophomore Lacey Clark of Bettendorf contributed six as DMACC hit .258 in the win. The Bears got 36 kills from 89 attacks with 13 hitting errors.

 

Sophomore Gill Tupper of Nevada had 34 assists and three ace serves and freshman Keimoney Lang of Iowa City added two ace serves. Freshman Daiton Martin of Essex led DMACC in digs with 15 and Paulsen and Lang finished with 12 and 11 respectively. Paulsen had four blocks, including two block assists, and Clark had three block assists.

 

Paulsen and Dilsaver had nine kills apiece as DMACC dropped a 16-25, 12-25, 16-25 decision to RVC. The Bears hit .272, getting 35 kills from 92 attacks with 10 hitting errors.

 

Tupper came away with a team-high 31 assists and also had a pair of ace serves, as did Clark. Martin finished with a team-high 16 digs with Paulsen, Lang and Tupper getting 13, 12 and 10 respectively. Dilsaver led the Bears in blocks with three, including two block assists.

 

Paulsen had 13 kills and Parker and Dilsaver came away with 11 apiece in DMACC's 25-14, 20-25, 18-25, 25-22, 7-15 loss to CCCC. The Bears hit .217 with 52 kills from 143 attacks with 21 hitting errors.

 

Tupper finished with 46 assists and three ace serves and Martin had a team-high 23 digs. Lang finished with 20 digs, Tupper had 19 and Paulsen came away with 14. Dilsaver led the Bears in blocks with eight, including six block assists.

 

Paulsen's 12 kills and nine by Dilsaver lifted DMACC past GVUJV by set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-20. The Bears hit .344, getting 43 kills from 93 attacks with 11 hitting errors.

 

Tupper came away with 29 assists and Martin had three ace serves to go with 10 digs. Lang led DMACC in digs with 20 and Clark had four blocks, including three block assists.

 

The DMACC volleyball team will host Southwestern Community College (SWCC) in an Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) matchup Oct. 17 inside the DMACC gymnasium. The Bears are 5-2 in conference play. SWCC is 13-18 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
