Grizzlies split weekend double header in Oklahoma

The Butler Baseball team split their weekend double-header on the road at Redlands winning game one 7-2 but falling in game two 3-2 to suffer first loss of season.

GAME ONE

Game one saw starter Zach Chiolis record his first win of the season as he went four innings allowing one run off five hits. He walked three while striking out five.

The Grizzlies got on the board early scoring two in the first inning. They added another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead. Redlands scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the third to trail the Grizzlies 3-1.

Butler put the game away in the fifth when they plated four runners to take a 7-1 lead over Redlands. Austin Portner hit a sac fly scoring one to get thigs started. Brandon Ryan hit a two RBI double scoring Colby Standard and Josh Cameron and he would eventually score himself off a wild pitch.

Redlands scored on a balk by Nate Brecht to bring it to 7-2, but Zach Nagle would put an end to their scoring coming in and stinking out three batters to end the game.

 

GAME TWO  

Game two featured very little offense from either team. Redlands took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third after an error would get a runner to third. He scored off a wild pitch from Izack Tiger to take the lead. Redlands would plate their second and third runners of the game off two Butler errors, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, giving them the 3-0 advantage after six complete innings.

Colby Standard would try to get the Grizzlies back in the game with an RBI in the seventh and Bryce Zimmerer would score off an error, but it was not enough as Redlands closed out the seventh to escape with the 3-2 victory, handing the Grizzlies their first loss of the season.

Izack Tiger was charged with the loss. He pitched four innings giving up two runs, neither earned, off two hits. He had no walks and struck out two. Dillan Janak finished it out pitching the final two innings. He gave up one unearned run off one hit. He walked one and recorded seven strikeouts in his two innings of work.

The Grizzlies finished with eight hits in the contest but stranded eight baserunners. Dylan Werries was 2 for 3 with a walk and Bryce Zimmerer also finished 2 for 3 with one run scored.

Butler (5-1, 0-0) will host Des Moines Area Community College on Saturday and Sunday at home in a four-game series. Games begin at 1:00pm both days at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado, KS
