NORTH NEWTON – Running their first 5,000-meter race of the season Saturday, Hutchinson Community College women's cross country runners both posted times within the all-time Blue Dragon Top 15 at the Bethel College Muthama-Rogers Invitational.

Cocking and Too finished 12th and 14th, respectively, to lead the NJCAA No. 5-ranked Blue Dragons to a fourth-place finish in the 17-team field at the Bethel College Cross Country Course. The Blue Dragons scored 117 points, and was the second-highest placing Jayhawk Conference team.

St. Mary's University won the women's team title with 48 points. Friends University was second with 68 and KJCCC rival Colby was third with 100 points.

Cocking's 12th-place time on Saturday with 19 minutes, 10.31 seconds in her first collegiate 5K race. That time was the fifth-fastest 5K time in Blue Dragon history. Cocking was also the fourth-highest KJCCC finisher on Saturday.

Too ran a career-best time on Saturday. The sophomore ran a time of 19:27.55, which ranks 13th on the all-time Blue Dragon women's 5K cross country list. Too was the sixth-highest Jayhawk Conference placer.

Freshman Izzy Wheeler had a strong first 5K race as a collegiate runner. She placed 31st individually with a time of 20:22.74.

Sophomore Megan Miller posted a PR for 5,000 meters with a time of 20:36.29 to finished 35th overall. Freshman Noel Hidalgo was 54th in a time of 21:25.27. Freshman Jurney Yung was 77th in a time of 22:29.62.

The Blue Dragons will run again in two weeks at the Allen Community College Invitational on October 3 in Iola.
