
Hackman, Chargers Take Top Honors in Season Opener
GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College women's golf team claimed the top spots in the individual and team standings as it opened its season by hosting the Charger Invite on Saturday at Lake Bracken.
Freshman Ava Hackman took medalist honors in her first collegiate event with an 11-over-par 84, and Sandburg finished with a 371 team total to win by 20 shots.
Hackman's round edged DuPage's Ivy Burnett by one stroke for medalist honors. Chargers sophomore Ellie Wasson was third individually with a 93.
All five players competing toward Sandburg's team score posted sub-100 rounds. Addy Trego and Lauren Minkel each shot a 97, and Lainey Jensen carded a 99. Taylor Haga, playing as an individual, shot a 104.
The Chargers' 371 total easily topped the 391 by runner-up Danville Area. Southeastern was third with a 404.
