Scotties overcome 15-point deficit to defeat the Blazers

Highland showed poise and determination Saturday afternoon as they overcame a 15-point deficit and defeated John Wood Community College 63-55.
 
After trailing by as much as 15-points with 3:40 to play in the first half, Highland went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to eight at the halfway point.
 
The Scotties showed tenacity early in the second half coming out with high energy taking the lead and extending it to 11, 51-40 at the media timeout. They led by as much as 14-points under seven minutes to play, but the Blazers of John Wood kept battling. They came within five under two minutes to play but would not get any closer as Highland got the win 63-55.
 
Highland, averaging 85.3ppg, posted their lowest scoring game (63 points) of the season and third lowest with points allowed.
 
Holden Redparth went for a double-double (his sixth of the season) with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Alonzo Williams chipped in 12 points and Ryan Haskins scored 11. Taiveyhon Mason dished out five of HCC's 15 assists and Kevin Perry matched his season high of eight rebounds. The Scotties only made three three-pointers in the game, five below their average of 8.6 per game.
 
Highland has now finished up non-conference play (15-5) and heads into KJCCC play this week. They start on the road Wednesday, January 24 at Labette Community College (10-10) with a 7:30pm tip. That game will be streamed live on the Scottie Sports Network.
