MCC golfers finish 13th at National Preview Tournament in Kansas
NEWTON, Kan. – The McCook Community College golf team finished the National Preview Tournament at Sand Creek Station in Newton, Kan. Wednesday with a final round 316 to finish 13th among the 15 teams competing.
MCC had rounds of 304 and 289 Tuesday and followed that up with a 316 on Wednesday. Only one team, New Mexico, shot better than even-par on the day. New Mexico was able to win the tournament with a three-shot advantage over Hutchinson Community College. Odessa College (Texas) was in third place, 27 strokes back of the leaders.
This tournament's field had seven of the top 10 teams in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Coaches poll with 13 of the 15 teams in the tournament ranked in the top 20. MCC is ranked 17th.
The Sand Creek Station course is the site of the 2023 National Junior College Athletic Association Division I golf championship.
Sophomore Ethan Gough (Pietermaritzburg, South Africa) and freshman Cade Cryer (Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa) tied for the lowest MCC score of the tournament. They finished the three rounds at 4-over par and tied for 15th place. Gough finished with a 76 on Wednesday and Cryer shot a 75.
Sophomore Jordan Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) had an 85 to finish at 238 for the two days in Kansas. Brayden Dahl (sophomore, Outer West Durban, South Africa) had a 239 and Cayden Wynne (sophomore, Lincoln) finished with a 240. Dahl shot an 82 on the final round while Wynne had an 83.
MCC will jump right back into Region IX play Thursday when they travel to La Junta, Colo. for the two-day Otero Junior College meet.
