Colts vs Skylanders of Sussex County
The SUNY Orange Colts took on the Skylanders of Sussex County Community College. The Colts earned their first lead of the game after trailing by two runs for the first 6 innings of the game coming off an error which brought in two runs to tie the game at 2 runs a piece. Sophomore Center Fielder #5 Dawn Grover showed her speed on the base path as she hit an inside the park homerun which gave Grover her first home run of the 2024 season and her third career home run in a SUNY Orange uniform. Grover gave the Colts their first lead of the game coming extremely late in the game followed by a Lindsay Keane double to drive in the fourth and final run of the game. Going into this game the Colts stand at a record of 18 wins and 10 losses and with this win they are one step closer to getting to that 20th win on the year. In what was a slow first game for the Colts only tallying 7 hits for just 4 runs. Lindsay Keane and Dawn Grover finished with multiple hits and were two out of four players who did not record a strikeout.
Pitcher #24 Gianna Catletti earned the win for the Colts. Gianna gave up six hits and just two runs over seven innings of play, facing off against 29 batters; she struck out seven batters and didn't allow any walks throughout the entire game. Striking out two of the last three outs to secure the win and maintain their 4-2 lead over the Skylanders.
In game #2 the Colts were able to get the first lead of the game coming early in the first inning due to a single from Nicole Imhoff which drove in the first run of the game, but was short lived as the Skylanders were able to get the lead in the fourth inning by a score of 2-1. In the top of the 5th inning the Colts went on a 10 run scoring spree which would help them complete the sweep over Sussex 11-2. In what was a better game inside the batters box for the Colts where five different athletes recorded a double and some scored either 1 or two runs. Dawn Grover, Lindsay Keane, Gianna Catletti, Nicole Imhoff and Madeline Brennan all recorded hits for two bases with Gianna (2) Lindsay (2) Madeline (2) and Nicole (3) all earning runs batted in.
Pitcher #4 Molly Martin earned the win for the Colts, the starting pitcher gave up just five hits and two runs over 5.0 innings pitched, Martin faced off against 23 batters and struck out just one while walking four.
The Colts are now on a double digit win streak winning their last 10 games in a row, they will look to continue their success as they travel back home to face off against the Sharks from Suffolk County to start their 8 consecutive games at home.
