United Tribes falls in overtime at Lake Region
Thunderbirds lose 90-85 in overtime on the road against Lake Region
In a game that featured 13 lead changes and 9 ties the Lake Region State College Royals eventually made enough plays in overtime to hold off the visiting Thunderbirds of United Tribes 90-85.
The Royals executed in the half court and played good team defense to take a 37-32 advantage to locker room at halftime. After the break the pace of the game picked up and the Thunderbirds quickly made up ground and took the lead 49-48 on a nifty pass from Famous Lefthand to Tristin Davis for a layup with 14:41 to play. The lead changed hands many times the rest of the way and DK Middleton hit two freethrows to tie the score at 79 with 22 seconds left and the Thunderbirds got a stop to send the game to overtime.
With under a minute to play in overtime and the Royals clinging to a 84-83 lead James Sommer rattled home a three that touched every part of the rim before going in. The Royals made freethrows down the stretch and held on to win 90-85 on their home court.
The Royals shot a blistering 56% from the three point line, 45% from the field and 79% from the freethrow line in the win.
Clarence Daniels led the way for the Royals going 16-18 from the free throw line on his way to a game high 32 points and 15 rebounds. Lefthand poured in 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 asssits for the Thunderbirds. Sylvester Union added 23 points and Davis finished with 21. Also reaching double figures was DK Middleton with 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.
