Kougars Softball season comes to end in Regional Quarterfinal Championship

May 5, 2024 - The Kougars would move to day two in the NJCAA Region 4 quarterfinal round against a familiar foe in Illinois Valley CC who earlier in the day beat Prairie State in the play-back opening game.  Much like the regional opener on Saturday, the Kougars would be in a tough fight throughout.  Down 5-4 heading into the sixth inning the Kougs would respond in the top of the inning behind a single by Abby Stoffa to lead off then two Eagles errors loaded the bases with two outs.  Haley Trela came up and hit a clutch single to left scoring Stoffa and Haley Von Schnase to go up 6-5.  Alyssa Wilkerson would hold IVCC right there pitching allowing just as single for the 6-5 win for the Kougars. Kyra Johnson went 2-4 while Jalyna Polichnowski, Linnea Nelson and Greta Horner scored runs. With the win, Kish would play Kankakee CC in the quarterfinal championship immediately after.

Kishwaukee would be held scoreless until their half of the seventh inning. Yet, showing their never give up mentality all year, Kish woulod battle to score two runs but it wouldn't be enough of a rally as Kankakee would take the regional championship game to advance to the Final Four next weekend.  The Kougars however had one of the best seasons in recent memory going 30-23 on the season. This was only the fourth time in the past twenty-three years eclipsing the 30 win mark in Kishwaukee softball history. The team also went 8-8 in Arrowhead Conference play and took third in conference which was the highest finish in over fourteen years.
