Centurions fall to 9th ranked Spartans

NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Bucks Centurions racked up nine hits, but it wasn't enough, as the Centurions fell 14-5 on Thursday afternoon at the hands of the 9th ranked Northampton Spartans.

Brandon Tocce had a strong showing against the Spartans, racking up five strikeouts, allowing only one earned run, four hits and five walks over his five innings pitched.

Northampton took an early lead thanks to a first inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate. One run in the bottom of the third helped Bucks close its deficit to 5-1.

After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Bucks faced just a 7-4 deficit. An RBI double by Frank Gonzalez and a two-run double by Brandon Wermuth set off the Centurions rally. Northampton answered with six runs in the fifth. At the bottom of the inning, Bucks continued to fight as an RBI single by Fernandez gave the team life. Northampton ended the scoring in the 8th added in one more run and 14-5 victory.

With the loss, Bucks drops to 5-10 overall, 1-4 in Region XIX and 1-4 in the EPAC. Northampton improves to 19-3 overall, 7-0 in Region XIX and 5-0 in the EPAC. Bucks will travel for a double header against Region XIX opponent, Atlantic Cape on Sunday, April 17, 2016 with a noon start time.
