On Sophomore Night, Tyler Junior College was hoping to extend two winning streaks at Wagstaff Gymnasium.

The No. 11 Apache Ladies, behind their high-scoring offense, did just that with a 93-77 victory over the Jacksonville Lady Jaguars.

In the second game, the Apaches came within two-tenths of a second of doing the same, but fell in overtime, 71-69, to Navarro College.

The TJC teams conclude the regular season on Saturday at Kilgore.

The Apache Ladies (25-4, 14-3) continue their ascent in the win column by sweeping the Lady Jags (15-13, 9-8).

Malena Washington, a freshman, led the way with 22 points. Joining her in double figures scoring were Shernise Robertson (16), Caitlyn Ramirez (15) and Victoria Kemokai (14).

Ramirez had a double-double as she also had 11 rebounds, along with two blocks.

Jasmine Prophet had five boards, four blocks and three steals.

Susan Agesen, the former All-East Texas player from Edgewood, led the Lady Jags with 21 points, including 4 of 6 from 3-point land. She also had four rebounds.

Devanyar Workman added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Yvonne Maosa and Allison Moore added 13 and 10 points, respectively.

The Apache Ladies jetted out to a 21-point lead, but Jacksonville worked the deficit down to 78-71 with 3:23 to go on two free throws by Maosa.

However, an inside bucket from Prophet and a 3-pointer by Robertson gave TJC breathing room and they cruised the rest of the way.

"I turned to my assistant (Precious Ivy) and I couldn't believe we had a 21-point lead because Workman is so strong and they just play consistent basketball. They give it everything they've got," said TJC coach Trenia Tillis-Jones, whose team has won five straight.

The Apache Ladies mentor was pleased with winning home finale.

"As coaches we get nervous about sophomore night — the kids are going to have jitters and they are so emotional about this being the last time they play on the court you don't how they will play," Tillis-Jones said. "I thought our freshman played well. But we had good spurts at the right time."

In other women's results: Paris 90, Panola 85, OT; Trinity Valley 137, Bossier Parish 56; Blinn 92, San Jacinto 61; and Angelina 60, Kilgore 34.

TJC honored the TJC sophomores — Blayke Hemmitt, Robertson, Ramirez and Emanuel after the game.
