BRENHAM -- Quarterback Qua Gray threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns -- two to Jeremiah Aaron, whose 204 all-purpose yards included a 91-yard kickoff return as the Bulldogs pummeled Blinn 69-31 Saturday at Cub Stadium.
Gray, in his second start, completed 30-of-43 passes for 341 yards and threw touchdown passes of 15, 21 and 16 yards for Navarro (3-2), piled up 605 yards offense and 794 total yards. Navarro's 69 points represent the most scored by the winning team in the history of the 87-game series. Saturday's 69 points is the most scored by the Bulldogs since a non-conference 69-41 win over Texas A&T in 2019, and their highest point total in conference play since a 65-7 win over Cisco in 2016.
While handing coach Ryan Mahon's Buccaneers their fourth loss in five games, NC scored in every quarter, including a wave of 35 unanswered points during the final period. Trailing 17-13 five minutes into the second quarter, NC got field goals of 29 and 31 yards from Alexis Lopez and then cannonaded Blinn with a series of rushing, receiving, returning and defensive touchdowns.
Aaron's first TD reception with 7:47 remaining in the first half regained Navarro a 21-17 lead it never relinquished. Both of Lopez' field goals came inside the half's final 2:42 and pushed the Bulldogs into a 27-17 lead at intermission.
The Bulldogs' offense also featured running backs Isaiah Robinson, Ja'kobi Holland and Elijah Hines, who shredded Blinn for 295 yards -- almost a first-down per carry -- in the process of tacking up four touchdowns. Robinson (20-115-2) and Hines (6-108-0) provided Navarro its first 100-yard tandem backfield this season.
Robinson, a sophomore from Humble, now ranks second in rushing TDs (6), sixth in per-game rushing (103.9) and ninth in rushing yardage (414) nationally this spring.
Robinson also caught one of Gray's TD passes -- a 21-yarder during the final period.
Gray's top target among eight receivers Saturday was Aaron, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound freshman from Nachitoches, La., who snagged a personal season-high seven for 114 yards and two scores. Aaron, one of three NC receivers among the NJCAA's top 8 this spring, also returned a kickoff 91 yards to give NC a 13-7 second-quarter lead.
NC added a defensive touchdown with 2:48 to play when Joseph Fuentes blocked a Blinn punt from its 33-yard line, and Koby Cooper emerged from a wild scramble with a recovery in the Buccaneer end zone.
Blinn quarterback Chandler Rogers accounted for four touchdowns. Rogers completed 16-of-31 passes for 261 yards with touchdown passes to Henry Thomas (5-107-1) and Chase Davidson (5-72-1). The Bucs' signal-caller also ran 10 times for 46 yards and two scores.
Navarro plays Saturday at Cisco against the unbeaten, fourth-ranked Wranglers before returning to Corsicana to host eighth-ranked TVCC in the final regular-season game May 8.
