Spartans Bested by Rock Valley

Rockford, Ill. - The Elgin Community College baseball team fell in a pair of games to Rock Valley on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans move to 20-27 in their overall season as the Eagles improve to 29-22.

Game 1: ECC 5, RVC 8

Charlie Jury recorded his fourth home run of the season to tally three RBI and one run. Jaden Alberson and Ryan Nelson went 2-for-3 at the plate with two singles apiece.

Frank Szymanski made the start and went four innings with three strikeouts. Andrew Shevlin pitched two innings of relief and recorded two strikeouts.

Rock Valley led 0-6 after four innings.

Ryan Caccia singled in the fifth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jury hit it into a one-run double for the team's first run of the game.

The Eagles scored two in the bottom of the inning to extend its lead to 8-1.

Jury came in clutch once again with a two-run homer in the seventh. Max Hertel walked and Logan Riley doubled to put them both in scoring position. Hertel scored on a passed ball during Patrick Nelson's at-bat with Riley making it to third on the same ball before scoring on a wild pitch to result in the 5-8 final score.

Game 2: ECC 6, RVC 9

Gavin Crofoot registered two RBI and one run as R. Nelson tallied two runs and one RBI. Jaden Jones pitched 5.2 innings with three strikeouts.

Ryan and Pat Nelson hit back-to-back singles to get on base in the top of the second. A single from Scott Emma allowed R. Nelson to score for the first run of the game.

Caccia led off the third inning with a single before advancing to second on an error and scoring on Riley's hit.

RVC tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the inning.

R. Nelson and Alberson made it on base after getting hit by pitches. Crofoot's sixth triple of the season allowed them to take back the lead at 4-2 in the top of the fourth.

Rock Valley scored one in the fifth and six in the sixth to take its first lead of the game.

Elgin scored one in the seventh but was unable to make up the deficit as they fell 6-9.

The Spartans host Triton for a single game on Friday at 3 p.m.
