WINNING STREAK ENDS FOR NO.9 EAGLES

ESTHERVILLE - The ninth-ranked Kirkwood men's basketball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an untimely end Saturday with a 70-63 setback at Iowa Lakes.

The loss knocked the Eagles out of first place in the ICCAC standings with the 16-game race coming down the stretch. DMACC has moved into first place with a 9-2 record, followed by Kirkwood at 11-3 and Iowa Lakes at 9-4.

Kirkwood hosts Northeast Community College on Feb. 19 and finishes the regular season at DMACC on Feb. 23 in what could be a showdown for the title.

The Eagles fell behind by 12 points at halftime against Iowa Lakes Saturday and could not catch up. The Eagles, normally a strong rebounding team, were beaten 37-20 on the backboards.

Dre Anderson led Kirkwood (19-7) with 14 points. Caleb Delzell scored 11 points and Blake Brinkmeyer had 10.
