Women’s Basketball Named South Atlantic District A Champions

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA – The Richard Bland College Women's Basketball team moves to 26-2 overall after traveling to Wake Technical Community College for the Region 10 South Atlantic District Tournament Championship this afternoon.
With a 67-52 win over Catawba Valley Community College in the championship contest this afternoon, Richard Bland has been named the South Atlantic District A Champions and have punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, for the first time in program history, in the inaugural season of the program.
The Statesmen and Red Hawks battled through the first period with the Statesmen taking the early one point, 21-20 lead. Richard Bland came out on top by five in the second period and would not look back. Although the Red Hawks outscored Richard Bland 14-12 in the third, Richard Bland brought it home and made a statement holding Catawba to only five points in the fourth quarter, to bring home a 67-52 victory.
Three Statesmen scored double-digit figures in the win led by Jasmine Norman with 21 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Courtney Scott added 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and two assists. Auzhane Allard had 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists, two steals, and two blocks. Off the bench, Lauryn Bell tallied eight points, six assists, four rebounds, and one steal. Amira Roy was credited with 13 points, six points, and three blocks in the win.
Richard Bland went 68.0% from the charity stripe, 45.1% from the field, and 38.5% from the perimeter.
The Richard Bland College women's basketball team next prepares for the NJCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament and awaits their first opponent. Nationals are scheduled to take place at the SC4 Fieldhouse in Port Huron, Michigan March 21-25, 2023.
