Raiders defeat Roadrunners

The Roadrunners hosted the Three Rivers Community College Raiders from Poplar Bluff on Friday afternoon, Jan. 13. SFCC (11-8, 0-1 Region 16, 1-1 MCCAC) struggled at the free-throw line the entire game and lost their Region 16 opener 81-72. 

Three Rivers took a 10-6 lead with less than 13 minutes remaining in the opening half and led 31-28 at halftime. In the second half, SFCC continued to slip and was down by as many as 14 points in the second half. 

The Roadrunners made only 41 percent of their free-throws, and Three Rivers was able to force 20 turnovers. 

Freshman guard Russell Baker led in scoring with 15 points and dished out a team-high six assists. Freshman guard Onteral Woodson Jr. and sophomore guard Vonny Irvin added 13 points each. Irvin earned a double-double with a team-high 10 rebounds and three steals. Woodson led the team in blocked shots with two. 

SFCC travels to Moberly on Wednesday, Jan. 18, for another Region 16 and Missouri Community College Athletic Conference game against the Moberly Area Community College Greyhounds. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
