Vicksburg Home Field Dry but Losses Mount for Trojans
Field conditions at The Jimmy Bellipanni Baseball Complex caused the Trojans to move their home game to Vicksburg to the Sports Force Park. The dry conditions were a welcome change but the Trojans couldn't take full advantage of the improved playing conditions. "Hosting" the Southwest Mississippi Community College Bears, 14-17 overall and 4-6 in the MACCC, the Trojans dropped the double-header, 20-5 and 13-5.
In game one, the teams were tied 3-3 in the first inning but the Bears added 1 in the third, four more in the fourth, two in the sixth, then four in the seventh and six in the eighth. Trojan pitchers gave up 18 hits in the game and both teams committed three errors apiece. Four Trojan pitchers were on the mound, Brennan Duhe started and pitched four innings giving up 10 hits and eight runs (six earned) while striking out one and walking two. At the plate, the Trojans could only muster eight hits and five runs.
In game two, the Trojans were down early as Southwest put up three runs in the first and two in the second, then added five in the fifth while the Trojans could only muster four in the fifth and one in the sixth in the 13-5 loss. Trojan pitchers gave up 10 hits with Nick Koczka lasting four and one-third innings on the mound. He gave up seven hits, eight runs - all earned, walked five and gave up two home runs.
With the off number of teams in the conference, the Trojans have an off week with no midweek game.
"We have a bye date. Each team gets a bye date and we'll be back on the weekend. We'll give them a little bit of rest trying to let arms rest and let our banged-up guys fix that before we head into the second half of conference."
The Trojans will travel to Copiah-Lincoln Community College, 7-21 overall and 1-5 in MACCC, on Saturday, April 1st for a 3:00/6:00 p.m. double-header.
