Panola takes advantage of Blinn’s offensive struggles for 54-44 win

CARTHAGE, Texas - Blinn College women's basketball struggled on the offensive side of the ball and Panola College was able to take advantage and earn a 54-44 conference win on Wednesday night.

"We have struggled offensively in the last two games," said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. "We have one more conference game before the break on Saturday and we need the Christmas break to get better."

The loss drops the Buccaneers overall record to 6-5 and Region XIV record to 1-3.

Alanna Spencer led the Buccaneers with nine points, while Ke'Asia Williams followed with seven points and Jade Rochelle and Rayanna Carter each recorded six points in the loss.

Blinn and Panola played a close first quarter for Panola to narrowly hold a 15-13 lead heading into the second quarter. Panola gained leverage by using a strong defense to hold Blinn to four points in the second quarter and build a 27-17 lead at the half.

Blinn and Panola played head-to-head in the second half of the game as both teams scored 27 points. Blinn couldn't make up ground against Panola as Panola held onto a 42-33 lead in the third quarter before defeating Blinn 54-44.

The Buccaneers will travel for their final conference game before the holiday break to play San Jacinto College-North on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m.

Blinn has competed in intercollegiate athletics since 1903 and captured 36 NJCAA national championships since 1987.
