Canyon, TX-Angel Ayala is putting together a solid freshman campaign.
The Garden City native paced the Broncbusters again, finishing 29th with a time of 30:47.72 in the Buffalo Stampede 8K at West Texas A&M University on Friday.
"I was pleased, but we obviously need to improve our tactics," Head Coach Emmett Statzer said."
By the time the race started, mother nature had whipped up 30 mph winds, creating a challenging environment. Still, Ayala pushed through, grabbing Garden City's fastest time for the third straight event.
"He's getting better with each run," Statzer added.
Garden City also got much-needed improvement from Jose Ruiz, who clocked a time of 33:36.63, good for 38th place. Behind him was teammate Eli Handsaker-39th (33:51.89), Johnny Lozano-40th (34:12.87), and Erick Almaraz-43rd (35:20.50).
Next up: The Region VI Championships, Sat. Oct. 31 in El Dorado.
