
Softball upsets Florida SouthWestern with 8 run Seventh Inning
The Wrangler Softball team advanced in the winners bracket of the NJCAA D1 World Series on Tuesday morning with an 12-7 upset over Florida SouthWestern.
FSW jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a pair of hit batters and a fielders choice and an RBI single. The Bucs would not score another run until the bottom of the seventh.
The Wranglers would cut into the lead with a run in the top of the second to make it 4-1 FSW. Odessa would add a pair of runs in the 4th on a two RBI double by Renskee Tellekamp and tie the game in the 5th at 4-4 on in infield single by Taryn Blazevich.
The score would remain 4-4 untill the top of the seventh. Thats when the Wrangler bats exploded, driving in eight runs to take a commanding 12-4 lead. Mason Barclay would break the 4-4 tie with a two RBI single that scored Tyerra Kaaialii and Diveli Cherry to give Odessa a 6-4 lead. The Wranglers would add on six more runs on hits by Neve Adams, Reganied Franka, Diveli Cherry, and a two RBI double from Tyerra Kaaialii.
FSW would not go quietly as they scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it would not be enough as Avery Truss who entered the game for starter Mia Perez, would retire the final three batters to secure the Wrangler victory.
Odessa will now face the #5 seed Temple on Wednesday at 1pm.
